MediaBuffs research projects are theory-based, but with practical applications. We use cutting-edge survey tools like Qualtrics, allowing us to create the most compelling online surveys available. There's a reason why most Fortune 500 companies use Qualtrics. It is the gold standard in survey research. We craft multiple versions of surveys for different audiences, embed videos and other interactive features, and call people to action at the end of the study. We also conduct old-school paper-and-pencil surveys for selected applications, as well as focus groups.
As for theory, we pull heavily from both Marketing and Communication, with an emphasis on Consumer Behavior, Uses & Gratifications, and Organizational Communications. We utilize tried and true scales that have withstood the tests of time (and reliability and validity), but are also creating our own scales that will be tested fully under a variety of conditions and audiences. When it comes time to analyze the data, we primarily use SPSS and AMOS, replicating exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, building structural |
equation models, and performing a variety of other statistical tests. The Qualtrics package is also quite handy in producing basic statistics for general consumption.
Our audiences run the gamut from students to corporate customers, social media followers, private audiences, selective audiences (like fans of an author), and general audiences. We use a variety of appeals, including email, social media, and academic classes. By virtue of your being here, you are welcome to engage with us in any or all of our surveys. We will periodically post links to summary reports of our findings. We have several papers currently under review at academic journals and conferences. Our most current findings will be presented at conferences in Las Vegas, Fort Myers and New Orleans this fall. |
