Survey of eReader & Tablet Users

We live in interesting times. Technology changes seemingly as fast as the seasons, with some new gadget du jour tempting us at every turn. One of the latest new genres of gadgets includes eReaders and tablets. And apparently Santa was heavily laden with them for Christmas 2011, because by early-2012, about 29% of all Americans owned an eReader and/or a tablet. That's over 90 million devices in the US alone.

An eReader is just that: an electronic reading device. It has limited functionality beyond just receiving and displaying books, magazines and newspapers. Tablets, though have many of the features found on laptops, and have full internet functionality alongside basic eReader attributes. They vary considerably in price ($100-800).

But one thing is certain: their adoption and use represents a paradigm shift in how we acquire and consume what was once printed matter.

One of our goals in this study is to try to determine the uses and gratifications consumers experience while using an eReader or tablet. Are these devices delivering the "goods" the same as their printed counterparts, or is something else different happening here?

You tell us. We're all ears.
