Dr. Kristina Drumheller
Assist. Prof. of Communication

Dr. Drumheller joined the Department of Communication in 2006 and has served as director of graduate studies in communication since 2007. She received a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a M.A. in communication from Texas State University and a B.A. in public relations from Texas Tech University.

Organizational crisis communication, media effects, and leadership have been at the forefront of Dr. Drumheller’s research. She has 34 conference presentations and has been published in Communication Studies, Public Relations Review, Journal of Communication & Religion, and College Teaching. She also has published a chapter in The Rhetoric of Pope John Paul II, and has written a business and professional speaking workbook. She has been a leader in her area in online education, constructing several undergraduate and graduate classes in an online format. She continues to work with new technology to constantly improve he face-to-face and online classes.

Dr. Drumheller also engages in outside consulting, assisting with mock juries and grant evaluations. She enjoys time with her family and pets. She is an avid reader and enjoys tennis and golfing.

Dr. R. Nicholas Gerlich
Prof. of Marketing, Dept Head & Edwards Prof.

Dr. Gerlich came to WTAMU straight out of graduate school in 1989 after earning his Ph.D. in marketing at Indiana University. He has over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 60 conference proceedings, and also serves as the department head for the MMGB Department.

A pioneer in WTAMU's online program, Dr. Gerlich has been teaching online since 1997, and has over 50 distinct online teaching experiences under his belt. He continues to innovate and tweak his classes, adding video blogs every week. While Gerlich enjoys classroom teaching, he has found that online teaching is perfectly suited to both his personality and technical skills.

Dr. Gerlich is an avid bicyclist, having raced cross-country on a tandem bike with his wife in 1993, as well as individually in countless ultra-marathon races around the nation. He is a bicycle commuter and worked with the City of Amarillo in designing their bike lane system. He has served on numerous Boards of Directors in a variety of non-profits. He and his wife, Becky, are the proud parents of two girls (Becca and Bailee) they adopted from China.

Marc Sollosy
Instructor of Management
Sollosy has over 30 years of experience in many facets of industry. Prior to joining the faculty full time in 2006, Sollosy has been a consultant to a number of organizations in the areas of management, strategy and technology. Has been the CIO and COO of three different companies in different parts of the country, including San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Amarillo.

In addition to his responsibilities at WT, Mr. Sollosy is currently a doctoral student (Doctorate of Business Administration – DBA) at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. His area of study is strategy and strategic management with an emphasis in innovation and its impacts on firm performance.

Dr. Jessica Mallard
Interim Dean & Professor of Communication
Dr. Mallard joined the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities in 2002. She received a B.A. in communication from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1988, a M.A. in speech communication from Penn State University in 1992 and a Ph.D. in speech communication from Penn State University in 1994.

Dr. Mallard's research interests include first year experience research, effective teaching practices, teaching the basic speech course and service learning. Dr. Mallard has published and made numerous presentations on these topics and is co-author of Beyond Survival in the Academy: A Practical Guide for Beginning Academics.

 

Dr. Emily Kinsky
Assistant Professor of Communication
Dr. Kinsky joined the mass communication faculty at West Texas A&M in 2011. Prior to WT, she taught at Pepperdine University for three years, including one semester abroad. She earned her doctorate in mass communications from Texas Tech in 2008, her master’s in mass communications from Texas Tech in 1995, and her bachelor’s from Baylor University in the University Scholar program.

Her research areas of interest include the portrayal of public relations in the media and the relationship between children and media. She has presented 14 papers at academic conferences and has served on two conference panels. She has been published in Young Consumers: Insight and Ideas for Responsible Marketers, Journal of Public Relations, the Journal of Spanish Language Media, and Communication Quarterly. She has served as a reviewer for a number of conferences and publications, as well.

At WT, she teaches classes in the advertising/PR emphasis, as well as media design-related courses. She also assists with WT’s Advertising/PR Society.

Greg G. Armfield
Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at New Mexico State University.
Dr. Armfield, who earned his Ph.D. at University of Missouri-Columbia in 2004, specializes in the study of organizational culture and the intersection of cultural influences on mass media use. His interest in sports and media stems from previous research on sports and cultural differences portrayed through media and the role of information seeking for fantasy sports participants. His past research has appeared in the Journal of Communication, the Journal of Communication and Religion, the Journal of Media and Religion, and Sports Mania: Essays on Fandom and the Media in the 21st Century.

   
Dr. Anthony Spencer
Assist. Prof. & Director of Communications
Dr. Spencer has a background in intercultural and international communication. He has professional experience in television, radio and multimedia in the United States, Central America and South America. After working as a journalist for nearly a decade he earned his Ph.D. in 2008 from the University of Oklahoma, as well as degrees in journalism from the University of Texas and the University of North Texas.

Dr. Spencer has conducted both qualitative and quantitative studies in the United States, Central America, the Caribbean and Europe, focusing on immigration, mass media usage and new media. He currently directs the Department of Communication at Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, Peru. Prior to this appointment he served as a faculty member at West Texas A&M University.

Kelsey Timmerman
Author
Kelsey is author of Where Am I Wearing, a provocative look at where our clothes are made. He traveled to Honduras, Bangladesh, Cambodia and China to see where his clothes were made. He spent a month each in the three latter nations, fully engaging with workers, factories and local culture.

During this process he learned that the problems are not so much that people are shoeless, work long hours, or live in cramped spaces. Rather, it is poverty, and Kelsey is working to make an influence in eradicating this global problem. Kelsey lives with his wife, daughter and son in Muncie Indiana.

Dr. Meagan Brock
Assistant Professor of Management
Dr. Brock joined the College of Business at West Texas A&M University in 2011. She received a B.A. in psychology from the University of Montana in 2005, a B.A. in organizational communication from the University of Montana in 2006. She obtained her M.S. and Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Oklahoma in 2007 and 2010, respectively.

Dr. Brock teaches in the areas of business ethics and human resources management. Her research interests include dark side phenomenon, specifically, unethical and counterproductive behavior in the workplace, destructive leadership, and critical issues in selection and assessment.

Dr. Jeffry Babb
Assistant Professor of Communication
Dr. Babb joined the College of Business at West Texas A&M University in 2009. He received a B.A. in geography from the University of Hawaii in 1991, a master's of urban and regional planning from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000, an M.S. in information systems from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005 and a Ph.D. in business and information systems from the Virginia Commonwealth University in 2009.

Dr. Babb teaches computer programming, software development, game development, web development and networking. He has extensive experience in mentoring and coaching students in software design competitions, including coaching two winning teams in the national championship for Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Software Design Invitational.

His research interests include learning and software development method use, information systems security management, and data visualization and geographic information systems.
